Sixth annual Hospital Safety for People with Hearing Loss Program. On Monday, October 12 hospital representatives from Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, UChicago Medicine, NorthShore University Healthsystem, Rush University Medical Center, Swedish Covenant Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital have agreed to once again sit on our panel.
Nick Reed, AuD from John Hopkins University, offered a brief presentation of his research on the “Big Picture”. His research indicates that patients who self-identify or are identified as having hearing loss and have access to effective communication and/or technology, have shorter hospital stays, better health outcomes, fewer 30 day returns, and their medical costs are generally less than patients whose hearing loss is not addressed.
The panelists will each describe what their hospital is currently doing to address the needs of patients with hearing loss. Our members will have suggestions to offer to the panelists and our audience.
The meeting will be virtual this year. As always, we will have a congenial conversation between the panelists, and the panelists and our members, who are patients at these hospitals. This program is for the mutual benefit of both the hospitals and our hearing-loss community.
